Social Work

Nitya played an instrumental role in disaster relief efforts during two of India’s most devastating earthquakes—in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, and Bhuj, Gujarat—where he contributed to rebuilding lives and providing essential services to affected communities.

In the 1990s, Nitya Rao was invited by Swami Premanandaji of Uttarkashi to assist in planning and organizing a 10-day eye camp, a major humanitarian effort aimed at providing vital eye care services to underserved communities. During the camp, approximately 250 patients received eye checkups each day, followed by surgeries in the evening. Nitya played a key role in the camp’s success, helping to restore vision and improve the quality of life for countless individuals. This experience further underscored his commitment to meaningful social service and outreach.

In Wada, Maharashtra, he worked closely with tribal communities, especially in the village of Gargaon, where he introduced sustainable income-generating initiatives. He taught local villagers how to make eco-friendly seed pens and coordinated the production and sale of handmade bags, supporting financial upliftment and environmental awareness in the region.

He is the author of Whispers of the Soul and Faces of Humanity: 18 Narrative Snapshots Capturing the Essence of the Human Spirit, with three additional books currently in development. His works explore the complexities of human emotions, weaving tales that resonate on a deeply personal level.

Nitya’s insights on social issues have been featured in the Hindustan Times, a testament to his engagement with pressing social topics. As a Trustee of the Divine Life Society’s Mumbai Circle, he plays a significant role in supporting the organization’s spiritual and charitable endeavors, reinforcing his commitment to spirituality and service.
